Pungalina Station

Pungalina Station, an outback remote eco wilderness fully accommodated safari camp resort on 500,000 acres in Australia's Northern Territory Gulf. Fully guided tours for barramundi fishing, canoeing, rugged gorges, thermal underground springs, and 1500 million year old  limestone caves. Pungalina offers you a total wilderness eco experience all at the one location.  Access by 4 wheel drive or light aircraft.
Flights to Pungalina can be utilised all year, and so the option exists to experience the wonderful wildlife, barramundi fishing, eco wilderness and lush growth of the wet season. However ,due to the wet season, if you wish to travel at that time of year, accommodation may not be available. Best time is between April and November. To fly from Mount Isa will take approximately one and a half hours. We can suggest flights for you from anywhere in Australia ( eg Darwin, or Townsville).  Air tour charters from Melbourne in a comfortable twin engine aircraft can be arranged.
Pungalina offers you a total wilderness Eco experience all at the one location.  The camp is situated in a shady and lush grassed area adjacent to a natural underground thermal spring near the Calvert river. The site provides a safe and healthy water supply and the springs are perfect for that early morning or afternoon swim. Guests stay in spacious, fully insect screened individual or twin share tents, in comfortable beds with doonas. Each tent has its own permanent lighting.
A dining room tent (see below) is situated next to a bubbling spring, although many meals are served outside in the shade. A central marquee accommodates kitchen and food storage and is adjacent to the popular outside cooking facility. A separate shower block provides mains type pressure showers, hand basins and flush toilets. There is plenty of hot water. Meals are prepared using locally grown vegetables and fruits (when available), high quality local meats and any barramundi or other fish that may be caught. Occasionally it’s possible to sample bush tucker.
Climate: (Apr - Oct) Dry season. Hot and dry, up to 35C (95F) during the day and 20C (70F) at night. Some cold nights in the first few months are possible.
(Nov-Mar) Wet season. Temperatures are moderate but humidity is high. Afternoon rains are common

The aim on  Pungalina cattle station and safari camp is to ensure your stay is remote. We want to control the numbers at any one time and hence guests are asked to use our accommodation facilities and stay at our safari camp. This caters for about 12 people. On occasions it may be possible to allow campers access to the property. This will be very limited to ensure guests have that "exclusivity" feeling in an eco outback  remote wilderness in the Gulf. Prices for air tours and safari camp guests include barramundi fishing , boats, canoeing, limestone caves , bird watching , bush walking .......all activities. Credit card transactions require 1.5%  service charge.
