The Great South Pacific Express is the ideal centre-piece of
a longer holiday in Australia. Quintessentially an Australian
train, every detail has been sourced from Australia's railway
heritage: Solid red cedar wood walls, the finest myrtle burl panels
and the delicate stained glass clerestory roofs combine to make
the train the most luxurious hotel on wheels the Southern Hemisphere
has ever seen.
Resulting from a collaboration between Queensland Rail and Venice
Simplon-Orient-Express - the company that re-introduced the world's
most celebrated train in Europe and also operates the exotic Eastern
& Oriental Express - the Great South Pacific Express is no
ordinary train. Up to 20 carriages long, the Great South Pacific
Express comprises of superb sleeping carriages, all en suite and
air-conditioned, and a variety of Restaurant and Lounge cars.
The service is personal and unobtrusive in the traditional European
manner with a steward in every carriage to attend your needs.
On board, passengers are entertained by a pianist as well as
enjoying the views from the Observation Car - the best place to
experience the scenery as it glides by.
