TRAILS THAT ARE EASILY DIGESTED (September
3 2002)
Entrée offers a visual feast of some of New South Wales'
most picturesque countryside but save room for main course, a
cornucopia of culinary sensations.
Tourism New South Wales' Classic Country Drive touring route
starts and ends in Sydney and winds its way through Katoomba,
Bathurst, Orange, Cowra, Blayney, Young, Yass, Canberra, Goulburn
and Mittagong.
When you take a break to stretch your legs there's plenty of
opportunity to stretch your taste buds and sample gourmet produce
at places such as JD's Jam Factory in Young, the Mart Deli and
Hobbit Farm Goat Cheese in the Canberra region and the Huntley
Berry Farm at Orange.
And whether it be a cheeky chard, a crisp white blend or a bold
red you fancy the opportunities to taste and spit out (don't forget
you're driving) the nectar of the gods are plenty along the Classic
Country Drive. You can always buy a few bottles at the cellar
door to take with you.
If you're feeling very relaxed after all that culinary indulgence
you may want to quietly drive through the many scenic towns along
the way or stop and enjoy the ambience of the quieter country
lifestyle. Or if you find you are full of energy and adventure
you can take a hot air balloon ride or even trek through an underground
maze of limestone tunnels (Jenolan Caves).
The Classic Country Drive is a treasure trove of experiences
taste, sightsee, explore so consume and be consumed
by this fantastic New South Wales food and wine trail.
